CAO/UCAS Application Procedures
A record number of applications for third level places have been received by the CAO this year. There has been a 10% rise in applications, with 72,000 received so far. Last year there were 45,500 places for first year entrants.
It is thought by career experts that point requirements for popular courses such as Arts and Business will rise considerably. Points for courses linked to the building industry are likely to fall however; student demand for these courses fell by 40 per cent last year. Points for law and architecture are also likely to drop due to the limited employment opportunities currently in these areas.
We look at students current subjects for leaving cert and together devise an accurate idea of the points they hope to achieve. This gives students a better understanding of the courses open to them. We also provide students with the option of the “Back Door” into courses should they not get the desired points. There is a back door into most courses and career options that students and parents are often unaware of!
We can explain the CAO process in details to students and parents. We can also help students choose the right courses to choose their personality. We can place these courses in order of preference for both Level 8 and Level 6/7 so students have a focused list of what courses they hope to undertake.
We always advise students to put their most desired course first – irrelevant of whether or not they think they may get the points!
All information on CAO and UCAS courses is provided for students.
